Chair’s Christmas Message

15 December 2016

In the last number of weeks, I have travelled the length and breadth of the Mid Ulster district and had the very great pleasure of joining in Christmas celebrations in more than a dozen towns and villages. I have every sympathy for Santa who has an entire globe to get round!

Being able to meet so many people at each event, all with such positive atmospheres, has been a rewarding experience and I have been heartened by the sense of community spirit. Heartened too, by the tremendous response from local people to the many Christmas charity appeals which take place at this time of year, not least the food banks which sadly are still needed to ensure that those who are struggling economically can feed themselves and their families.

Others struggle in different ways – with grief, loss, loneliness, ill-health. So, amidst the hustle and bustle of our preparations, presents and parties, let’s all remember to continue to think about others who may be less fortunate. The kindness we show to those who find the festive season difficult, is what reflects the true meaning of Christmas.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son."

I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Councillor Trevor Wilson

Chair
