Ballyronan Marina on Lough Neagh has again received a coveted Blue Flag award for its outstanding facilities and environmental management at this year’s Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful Awards.
The awards took place this week at Ballyronan Marina. The latest award marks the 8th in a row for the marina which first picked up the title in 2010!
Receiving the award on behalf of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Phelim Gildernew said, “It’s an absolute privilege to accept the Blue Flag award for Ballyronan Marina for an impressive 8th year in a row! This is a remarkable achievement not only for the marina itself but for the community and in fact the district as a whole. We have beautiful coastal and shore lines, and a duty to protect and enhance them in a sustainable manner for the benefit of our visitors now, and in the future.
“We don’t do it alone, of course. Councils, work together with individuals, community groups, schools and the voluntary sector across the year to achieve and maintain those standards.”
Only one other marina in Northern Ireland was awarded the Blue Flag status signifying world class facilities and destinations.
Tony Wilcox, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, said: “Having Northern Ireland’s world-class beaches managed to such high Standards is helping improve the quality of our lives as well as attracting visitors.
“Beach operators are inspirational people showing that all of us can play our part in loving where we live. And, in most council areas, the Live Here Love Here campaign is building on this to inspire everyone to get involved in creating cleaner, greener and healthier places to live, learn and work.”
