Blooming Marvellous! Mid Ulster Villages Win Horticultural Awards

15 September 2016

Two Mid Ulster villages have scooped awards at the 2016 Translink Ulster In Bloom competition.

Castlecaulfield took first place in the village category and Donaghmore was named runner-up in the same group, in the annual horticultural competition which encourages cities, towns and villages to look their best and boost civic pride through beautiful plant and floral displays.

On hearing the announcement, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Trevor Wilson, said:

“The success awarded to Mid Ulster in this year’s Ulster in Bloom competition is an incredible achievement. To have two villages in our area take first and second place out of 156 entries is certainly something to be proud of.

“This fantastic result is a testament to the hard work and commitment of all those involved from council staff to local communities who dedicate so much time to making both villages look so impressive. The hard work has definitely paid-off!”

Speaking at the results announcement ceremony, Translink Chairman, Frank Hewitt, said:

“Congratulations to all the 2016 Translink Ulster in Bloom winners and runners-up!  You make Northern Ireland an attractive place to live and visit and I would like to thank all of you for your time and effort all year round.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with local councils, business and community groups to make a lasting positive difference to local areas and ultimately boost societal wellbeing.”

The Translink Ulster in Bloom Competition is co-ordinated by the Northern Ireland local Government Association (NILGA) and the 2016 Winners’ Prize Presentations will take place in March 2017.
