Mid Ulster District Council has launched a series of fly and coarse fishing schools taking place across the district in July and August.
The fishing courses are part of Mid Ulster District Council’s programme of summer activities, and are being organised in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), Moyola Angling Club and the Irish Coarse Fishing Federation.
The first fishing course in the series is a special week-long angling school from Monday 25 July to Friday 29 July from 10am to 2pm at Dungannon Park’s 12 acre freshwater lake. Suitable for children aged 11 and over, the course will give participants an opportunity to try out angling and gain some practical fly fishing experience, all using the expertise of qualified instructors.
The second fishing school to take place is a week-long fly fishing school at Bradley’s Lake, Tobermore from Monday 1 August to Friday 5 August from 10am to 2pm.
Running alongside this, on the 3 and 4 August, you can learn to coarse fish at Glenone Angling summer school. The course will take place between 10am -5pm over the two days.
Speaking at the launch of the summer fishing schools which took place at Dungannon Park this week, Deputy Chair of the Council, Sharon McAleer, said:
“Entertaining children, particularly older children, over the summer months is no mean feat and these fishing courses, with a balance between good fun and learning new skills, are exactly the kind of more unusual activity which will appeal.
“We are spoiled for choice for fishing locations in the Mid Ulster area and I have no doubt we’ll have some new fishing enthusiasts as a result of these fantastic courses.”
Dungannon Park and Bradley’s Lake courses cost £25 for the week and the course at Glenone costs £10 per person. For all courses £5 deposit secures a place and family group discounts are available.
