The annual Mid Ulster in Harmony concert, funded by Mid Ulster District Council’s Good Relations Programme, took place the at the Burnavon last week.
The event involved over 500 Primary 7 children from 26 local Primary Schools and was a culmination of the Traditional Music in Schools Programme presented by Donald Canavan, Music Tutor.
The concert was hosted by Neil Downing, Principal of Cookstown Primary School with a helping hand from the Hub’s Carol Doey.
This year the schools and pupils donated a huge quantity of food and other goods to the two Cookstown food bank charities Antioch and SVP.
Denis Loughry of SVP Cookstown said, “On behalf of SVP I wish to thank the pupils, parents and teachers for their overwhelming generosity for this year’s donation to those people in need of assistance from our food banks. There is a real need in our community for the food banks, particularly at Christmas.”
Pastor Ufuoma of The Antioch Food Bank also expressed his gratitude for the generous donations.
The event was attended by the Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Trevor Wilson, as well as MLAs Sandra Overend, Keith Buchanan and Patsy McGlone, Francie Molloy MP and members of the Mid Ulster Clergy Forum.
