The new Chair of Mid Ulster District Council has met with a group of visiting Spanish students and their teachers.
Councillor Linda Dillon hosted a reception for the group from the Colegio San Luis de los Franceses, a bilingual school on the outskirts of Madrid, as part of an exchange programme with Cookstown High School.
“I was delighted to meet the pupils and their teachers and to add my support to the work that both schools are doing to ensure their students can enjoy the opportunity to interact with, and learn from, native speakers”.
This is the third year that a group of Spanish pupils has visited Cookstown, after their teachers established the ‘friendship project’ to provide opportunities for pupils in both schools to develop their communication skills in English and in Spanish, and to encourage greater appreciation and understanding of their respective cultures through educational and social activities.
A return trip to Spain is envisaged for students from Cookstown High School later this year.
