Mid Ulster District Council has announced the contractors to undertake the multi-million pound public realm schemes in Dungannon and Cookstown.
The work to create new paving, lighting, street furniture, signage and planting in Cookstown will be undertaken by FP McCann, while Lagan Construction Group are the contractors in Dungannon.
Magherafelt will also benefit as part of the total £8M investment which is funded through the Department for Social Development (£4.5M) and Mid Ulster District Council (£3.5M), with contractors expected to be appointed for its scheme later this year.
“The appointment of contractors is a significant step in the process to deliver substantial investment in, and enhancement of Cookstown and Dungannon town centres,” said Councillor Linda Dillon, Chair of the Council. “We can now progress to the final design schemes and the companies can begin preparations to bring people and materials on site. We will, as always, continue to engage with local people and businesses as the schemes develop”.
The public realm works will be carried out in:
- Cookstown - James Street, William Street and adjoining streets to the east and west.
- Dungannon - Scotch Street, Ann Street, George Street, William Street, Thomas Street, Perry Street and Northland Row
- Magherafelt -The Diamond and connecting streets including Market Street, Rainey Street, Broad Street and Queen Street.
Work is expected to begin on site in Dungannon and Cookstown in September or October and Magherafelt’s scheme is scheduled to start in early 2016.
