More than 250 runners will be on their marks for the Maghera 10K this month (19 May).
The annual race, which has been going for over 20 years, attracts athletes from as far afield as Belfast and Newry, and is organised by Mid Ulster District Council with sponsorship from HM Electrics and Kelly’s Eurospar.
For the first time, the runners will benefit from chip timing and prizes will be awarded in 9 categories, for men and women, and for those who choose as part of a relay team.
Councillor Linda Dillon, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, met some of the runners in training:
“Running is becoming an increasingly popular way for people to keep active and improve their fitness and it’s great to see that the Maghera 10K is now firmly established on the annual circuit of local race events.
“Best of luck to all the competitors, whether they’re serious runners, having some fun as part of a relay or out to raise some money for a good cause, and thanks to our sponsors, HM Electrics and Kelly’s Eurospar, for their invaluable support”.
