Robert Emmets GAC, Slaughtneil, was recognised at an awards evening organised by Mid Ulster District Council to acknowledge the Club’s success in achieving a remarkable treble in football, hurling and camogie in the 2016 – 2017 season.
The reception was held at Walsh's Hotel, Maghera.
The Gaelic team beat Down champions, Kilcoo, to become the 2016-17 Ulster Senior Football Club Champions. This was the second time the club secured the Ulster crown in the last three years. Slaughtneil hurlers beat Antrim’s Loughgiel Shamrocks to be crowned Ulster Senior Club Hurling Champions for the first time.
The Senior Girls camogie team took on the Galway champions, Sarsfields at Croke Park in front of a record crowd of over 6,000 people and left as the 2016-17 All Ireland Camogie Senior Club Champions bringing the Bill & Agnes Carroll Cup for the first time ever to Derry.
