Mid Ulster District Council’s sports and leisure services team are excited to offer the popular ‘Couch to 5k’ exercise programme again this January. Developed to ease beginners into a regime that takes them from little or no running experience to being able to finish a 5 kilometre run in just nine weeks, it’s the perfect chance to launch a new you in the New Year.
The programme starts with a mix of running and walking, gradually building up fitness and stamina slowly, therefore creating realistic expectations and making the challenge feel achievable from day one.
Starting on 16th January the Couch to 5K challenge will meet at various venues in Cookstown and Magherafelt, and participants can come to one or as many sessions as they can make during the week at a cost of £18 for the full programme (including a free t-shirt).
Participating venues are, Mid Ulster Sports Arena, Cookstown – Tuesdays and Thursday (8pm – 9pm), and Meadowbank Sports Arena, Magherafelt – Mondays (6.45pm – 7.45pm) and Wednesdays (6:30pm – 7.30pm)
Speaking about the new Couch to 5k programme, Councillor Dominic Molloy, Chair Development Committee said, “This challenge is for everyone, whether you’ve never run before or if you want to get back into being more active. As a group training and exercise programme it provides the perfect opportunity to get fit and healthy in a welcoming and encouraging environment”.
Registration for the ‘Couch to 5k’ programme is now open and numbers are limited.
