The curtain was drawn at the end of another successful week of workshops at this year’s Summer Ballet School, led by Ballet Ireland, held at the The Burnavon Cookstown – the only stop on Ballet Ireland’s tour!
Now in its 15th year the Ballet Summer School is an opportunity for young dancers aged six and upwards with no audition required, to take part in a varied selection of classes and workshops based on all aspects of ballet performance. The week culminated in a performance of “The Elphin Hill”, thoroughly enjoyed by the participant’s friends and family.
This year forty young people – both boys and girls – signed up to the popular summer school with participants travelling from various parts across Northern Ireland including Cookstown, Belfast, Coleraine and Magilligan.
Councillor Dominic Molloy, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council’s Development Committee said,
“It was fantastic to welcome Ballet Ireland to Mid-Ulster, and we can honestly say it’s one of the highlights of the summer. I would like to congratulate all the young participants for their enthusiasm and effort throughout the week and for putting on a show-stopping finale to close.”
He said, “With demand increasing year on year, the Ballet Summer School is proving to be a hit amongst young dancers giving them a unique learning opportunity and an experience they will never forget. We attribute this success entirely to the Ballet Ireland team.”
School tutors worked extremely hard throughout the week teaching the young cast dance steps and routines for the production, as well as helping them to create artwork, props and accessories for the show.
According to Mr Stephen Brennan, Education Officer, Ballet Ireland, “Our goal is to nurture young students in the classical art form of Ballet, build confidence and spark a life-long appreciation of the arts. It has been a really fun and enjoyable week and I would like to thank all participants and organisers for their support and we look forward to returning again next year.”
