Successful International Day of Peace Concert at the Burnavon

23 September 2016

Mid Ulster District Council in partnership with the Mid Ulster Clergy Forum hosted a sold-out concert at the Burnavon, Cookstown on the 21st September to help celebrate International Day of Peace.  It featured a diverse range of performers and local youth talent from throughout the Mid Ulster region, marking an important contribution to the global peace celebrations.

Packed to capacity audiences were entertained on the evening with over 120 young people performing on stage. The event was the first such event in Mid Ulster and really brought together the community and schools to showcase the best of our local talent including the Donald Canavan traditional musicians, Ulster Scots Juvenile pipers and Cookstown Youth Choir.

The concert also formed part of celebrations for Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week in Mid Ulster.  The Presbyterian Moderator for Ireland Rt Reverent Frank Sellar attended and addressed the gathering with the Mid Ulster Clergy Forum.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The United Nations invites all to honour a cessation of hostilities during the day, and to commemorate the day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace.
