Growing up in a very rural environment in the 1960s I can clearly remember a people and landscape very different from today. Those working on the land, their way of life seemed much kinder and sedate compared to the industrial met horde used today. I have over the years become fascinated by derelict buildings and their contents, the last evidence of that way of life. It’s only when these buildings disappear that we notice, then it’s too late. Part of our history is lost forever. The technique of using just two colours was initially an experiment, but one that seems to enhance the content of my work as it continues to evolve. I was admitted to the Ulster Water Colour Society in 2008 and am fortunate to have my work in various galleries here in Northern Ireland and the Republic. In 2015 I retired from teaching after 35 years and am now concentrating on my painting. I regularly visit Art Societies across the country for demonstrations and teach classes as part of Local Councils Art provision. Last year I displayed at the National Craft and Design Fair at the RDS in Dublin.
