It is over 50 years since the first Powerscreen machine was designed. Today throughout the world, Powerscreen machines are the world leaders in mobile crushing and screening, and the machine is synonymous with high quality and performance. At a time when much of our country’s manufacturing has moved to China and India, engineering and specifically the crushing and screening industry in East Tyrone, continues to thrive. Today we have 200 companies in East Tyrone (many descended from Powersceen) altogether employing 3,500 people. Pat O’Neill, local historian and one of the founders of Powerscreen International, will discuss what factors brought about this unprecedented growth and how the company overcame the early challenges it faced from the invention of the first Powersceen machine in 1966 to its rapid development and expansion into export markets throughout Europe, Africa, Australia and America.
