Public Information Event: Mineral Exploration In Mid Ulster: Planning & Licensing Explained
As awareness grows of mineral exploration, and of the companies expressing an interest in Northern Ireland and, locally in the Sperrins, so too do the concerns of local people, unsure about the impact of exploration and any potential mining activity.
To help local communities understand how the planning and licensing of mineral exploration is managed here, Mid Ulster District Council brought together a panel of expert local and central government speakers on Monday 19 November in The Royal Hotel Cookstown.
- Dr Chris Boomer, Planning Manager with the Council, will talk about the role planning plays.
- Lorraine Fleming, Minerals and Petroleum, Department for the Economy, will explain the licensing regime.
- Mark Patton from Geological Survey NI will shed light on what’s actually involved in mineral prospecting.
