Disability Duties

As well as being a category under our Equality Duties, Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (as amended by the Disability Discrimination (NI) Order 2006) requires the Council, in carrying out is functions, to have due regard to:

  • Promote positive attitudes towards disabled people

  • Encourage participation by disabled people in public life

We are committed to integrating our disability duties within all aspects of the Council’s business and the Disability Duties Action Plan sets out how we intend to do it.

Disability Action Plan 2021-2026

How we deliver our disability duties is reported annually as part of equality progress reports.

In order to make it easier for disabled people, their families and carers to plan trips, and avail of beneficial information including where they can park, what toilet facilities are available to them and how to access support in a shop or facility should they require it, the Council is supporting the Access Mid Ulster website, which is led by the Mid Ulster Disability Forum.
