An interim Chair has been appointed to Mid Ulster District Council.
Councillor Cáthal Mallaghan takes over from Linda Dillon, who held the position until her election to the Assembly in last week’s poll.
Councillor Mallaghan will serve until the Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June and was previously Presiding Councillor – the equivalent of the Chair’s position – during the Council’s shadow period from May 2014 to March 2015.
“The Chair’s diary is full from one week to the next and I’m pleased to be able to honour the commitments which have already been made to attend events and support local people, groups and communities right across the District.
“I look forward to a very busy month, which I know from past experience will be extremely rewarding”.
The Council will appoint a new Chair and Deputy Chair in June to serve for a period of one year.
