Local artist Kyle Barnes celebrated the opening of his latest collection ‘New Works’ at The Burnavon, Cookstown.
Kyle has won various prestigious awards throughout his career including the Towry prize at the National Open Art Competition, the Tyrone Guthrie Residency and in 2017 he was awarded the Whyte's Award at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin.
The ‘New Works’ exhibition is a first look at a number of human beings who have been changed as a result of military combat, drawing inspiration from the unique levels of intensity and trauma involved in their field of work. Each portrait explores the application of paint on skin and the deeper context surrounding the character and life of the person portrayed visually.
Speaking about the opening, Kyle said ‘‘Thank you to everyone who came along to the opening night of this exhibition. It was amazing to see so many familiar faces, meet new people and have so much support. I hope many more continue to enjoy the work, as it’s displayed in the Burnavon throughout the month.’’
‘New Works’ by Kyle Barnes are on display until the 31st May 2018. For more information on the exhibition and accompanying talk, visit www.burnavon.com or call the Burnavon on 028 8676 9949.
