Traders in Magherafelt and Dungannon have welcomed news that Mid Ulster District Council is to reduce car parking charges in the run up to Christmas.
A special price promotion of 10p for 3 hours will operate in every off-street pay and display car park in Dungannon and Magherafelt for 6 weeks from Saturday 28 November through to Saturday 9 January.
The ability to influence parking charges and introduce price changes follows the transfer of responsibility for off-street parking to Councils in April.
James McCabe from Magherafelt Chamber of Commerce, said:
“The nominal parking fee is very welcome and will undoubtedly add to the appeal of our town centre as a shopping destination.
“The promotion is also well-timed, coinciding as it does with our key event, the Christmas Market, switch-on and fireworks display. We’re getting the festive season off to a great start and are pleased to be working in partnership with the Council.”
The 10p for 3 hours parking in all pay and display car parks begins on Saturday 28 November and ends on Saturday 9 January. Off street car parking in Cookstown town centre is free of charge.
