Traders in Magherafelt and Dungannon have praised the promotional pricing introduced by Mid Ulster District Council for car-parking over the Christmas and new year period.
The Council had reduced car parking charges, offering 3 hours parking for 10p in every off-street pay and display car park in Dungannon and Magherafelt for 6 weeks from Saturday 28 November through to Saturday 9 January.
Speaking as the promotion ended and the tariff returned to £1 for 5 hours, Stephen Mohan from Dungannon Traders Association, said:
“I wish to congratulate Mid Ulster District Council on their reduced car parking initiative in helping to attract customer footfall into our town centre over the Christmas period. We would welcome similar initiatives in the future as a way of encouraging more shoppers into Dungannon town centre.”
James McCabe from Magherafelt Chamber of Commerce said:
“The nominal parking fee was very welcome and undoubtedly added to the appeal of our town centre as a shopping destination over the Christmas and New Year period.”
The 10p for 3 hours parking in all pay and display car parks in Dungannon and Magherafelt finished on Saturday 9 January. Off street car parking in Cookstown town centre is free of charge.
The ability to influence parking charges and introduce price changes follows the transfer of responsibility for off-street parking to Councils in April 2015.
