Dungannon has begun its busker ‘recruitment drive’ ahead of the town’s second Battle of the Buskers event next month (Saturday 13 August).
Musicians, singers, bands and solo artists are being invited to showcase their musical talent in the competition, devised by Mid Ulster District Council in partnership with Dungannon Regeneration Partnership and Dungannon Traders Association, and which last year saw local act ‘The Knights’ take the title.
In 2016, as well as £1,000 in prize money, the overall winner will move straight from the street to the stage, performing that same evening in the ‘Pop in the Park’ concert in Railway Park, Dungannon.
The 2nd Best Busker will have the opportunity to produce a promotional video, while £100 prizes are also on offer in other categories, including best young performer and Spirit of Battle of the Buskers.
Launching the call for buskers, Chair of the Council, Councillor Trevor Wilson said:
“The 2016 Battle of the Buskers promises to be an epic one, particularly now that the first prize comes with the opportunity to perform the very same day on stage at our Pop in the Park concert in Railway Park.
“Dungannon is all about music this summer, with buskers, lakeside concerts and park concerts, all included in a packed programme of events from 31 July through to 29 August.
“Visitors and shoppers have a lot to look forward to, and I’m delighted once again that the Council, local business and traders are working together to promote Dungannon as a ‘must-visit’ destination."
Each performer will be allocated a pitch to perform on the day, along with an opportunity to perform on stage in the central event space in Market Square.
The closing date for applications Friday 5thAugust 2016. For more information about the event and how to apply, visit www.dungannonlife.com
