Language, nature and origins are at the heart of Wintering Out and are also central to the work of Kerri ní Dochartaigh and Manchán Magan.

Kerri ní Dochartaigh is the author of Thin Places which was highly commended by the Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing 2021. Her book is a breath-taking mix of memoir, nature writing and history: this is Kerri ní Dochartaigh’s story of a wild Ireland, an invisible border, an old conflict and the healing power of the natural world. Kerri has written for The GuardianThe Irish Times, and the BBC and credits Seamus Heaney as one of her foremost influences.

Manchán Maganis a writer and broadcaster for whom place is the basis for all his work. He has written books on his travels in Africa, India and South America and two novels. He writes occasionally for The Irish Times on culture and travel, presents the RTÉ podcast The Almanac of Ireland, and is author of the award-winning, best-selling Thirty-Two Words for Field.

He has made dozens of documentaries on issues of world culture for TG4, RTÉ and the Travel Channel.

Join Kerri and Manchán for a profound look at the importance of place and the words used to describe it, in the company of writer Myra Zepf.
