Situated on the Hillhead Road just outside Castledawson, this Blacksmith’s Cottage is in its original state (late 18th/early 19th Century).
One half of the building comprises the dwelling area; the other half is where the Blacksmith plied his trade.
The Forge has been in the Devlin family for generations and all the Blacksmiths’ tools, bellows, etc. are in place. The highlight of the living section of the Forge comprises two life size replicas of the smith, Frank Devlin, and his daughter Annie. The Forge is also the subject of a poem written by Seamus Heaney.
