|In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, new legislation has been introduced which allows the registration of death to be carried out remotely, rather than in person at the registration office as is normally the case.
Please note, new death registration process:
- From Friday 28 March 2020 when a person dies, the doctor will send the 'cause of death’ certificate by email to the General Register Office (GRO)
- The GRO will then inform our staff in the local registration office
- Our Registrar will then contact the next of kin or the funeral director by phone or email to obtain the details which will allow the death to be registered
- Any deaths that occurred before 28 March 2020 and family are in receipt of a cause of death certificate please contact the Registration Office for advice as to how death can now be registered
If you have any queries with regard to the new process, please don’t hesitate to contact the Registrar on 03000 132 132 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
You will need to fill in a Death Registration Form GRO73. This form is available at any of the registration offices, funeral directors or download at the link above.
