Mid-Ulster District Council is supporting the work of the Northern Ireland Forest School Association (NIFSA). Due to the high demand of interest in organisations wishing to become accredited Forest Schools, NIFSA and Mid-Ulster District Council is delivering a FREE one-day workshop to get all interested organisations registered and started on their Forest School journey.
Forest Schools are based on a Scandinavian idea that considers children’s contact with nature to be extremely important from an early age.
By incorporating innovative approaches to learning (such as undertaking small and easily achievable tasks) children are encouraged to develop their curiosity and motivation to learn. This is particularly important for those who find it difficult to assimilate knowledge in a strictly classroom situation.
The workshop will be held at Ranfurly House, Dungannon on 29th September at 9.30am-3pm.
The first half of the workshop will get organisations registered on the Forest School Awards website. This website has all the resources available to support your organisation becoming an accredited Forest School and inspire you to continue your Forest School activity every year.
The second half of the workshop we will be outside. Outdoor clothing is essential. Organisations will learn how to set up a Forest School and begin undertaking some simple Forest School activities.
Once registered you will receive the monthly NIFSA Newsletter – Learning Without Walls. This will keep you updated on Forest School activity in Northern Ireland.
Booking is essential. Please visit www.forestschoolawards.org and click on the Forest School Diary section. Select Mid-Ulster District Council area in the “search by Council area” and complete and submit the information for this event listing (NIFSA Forest School Family event).
