‘Reach out in friendship and neighbourly love this Christmas’ - Christmas Message from the Chair of Mid Ulster District Council
Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Frances Burton, would like to wish everyone in the district a blessed, safe, and peaceful Christmas.
She said,
“As we approach this sacred season, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas — a time when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, who came to bring hope, peace, and salvation to all.
“In the midst of the festivities, gatherings, and gift-giving, may we not lose sight of the true reason for the season and the profound message at the heart of Christmas: one of love, humility, and grace. The birth of Christ in a humble stable reminds us that greatness often comes in the simplest of forms, and that God’s love reaches out to everyone — regardless of background or circumstance.
“This season calls us not only to rejoice, but also to care for one another, to extend kindness to those in need, and to offer compassion and forgiveness in our communities. In these uncertain and often challenging times, the message of Christmas invites us to be people of hope, to carry light into dark places, and to be instruments of peace.
As we gather with family and friends this Christmas, I am mindful that this season can be especially difficult for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, whether in recent times or over the past year. Christmas is a time rooted in togetherness, and the absence of someone dear is felt all the more deeply. I extend my heartfelt thoughts to all who are carrying that sorrow. May you find comfort in cherished memories, in the support of those around you, and in the hope that the Christmas season brings.
“As Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, I would like to thank all those who serve and support our community throughout the year — from volunteers, carers, faith leaders and community workers — I encourage everyone to reach out in friendship and neighbourly love this Christmas.
“May your homes be filled with peace, your hearts with joy, and your lives with the love that Christ brings. Let us give thanks and celebrate this wonderful time of year.
“Wishing you and your families a blessed, safe, and peaceful Christmas.
“’For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life’ - John 3 v16, reminding us, at this poignant time of year, of the greatest gift ever given.”
