Indoor Pitch Upgrade Underway at Meadowbank Sports Arena

Works have commenced on the replacement of the indoor pitch carpet at Meadowbank Sports Arena, with Sports Grounds Specialists appointed as the main contractor.

The project, which has an estimated duration of six to eight weeks, represents an investment of approximately £200,000. Once complete, the new carpet will help to further facilitate hockey development in the area, as well as being integral for multi-sport and multi-use activities in the future.

The upgrade to the floor forms part of Mid Ulster District Council’s Pitch & Recreational Spaces Strategic Five-Year Plan, a comprehensive programme guiding the development and improvement of sporting facilities across the district. With a total investment of £4.6 million, the strategy seeks to address the needs of a variety of sports through enhancements to both Council-owned sites and through partnership working with local clubs and organisations.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Frances Burton welcomed the commencement of works, noting':

This investment in Meadowbank Sports Arena is another significant step in delivering on our commitment to improving sporting infrastructure across Mid Ulster. By ensuring our facilities are modern, safe and accessible, we’re enabling more people to participate in sport and physical activity, benefiting health, wellbeing and community life.

The replacement works are expected to be completed by late November to early December 2025, with the facility reopening for bookings shortly thereafter.
