Council Launches Trainee Leisure Attendant Recruitment Programme
Mid Ulster District Council is inviting applications for a new Trainee Leisure Attendant Recruitment Programme, providing local people with an opportunity to gain a nationally recognised lifeguarding qualification and begin a career in the leisure industry.
The Council is recruiting for both full-time and part-time Trainee Leisure Attendant positions across its leisure facilities.
The initiative is designed to attract individuals who are enthusiastic about health, fitness, customer service and community wellbeing, while providing a supported pathway into employment within the Council's leisure services team.
Full-time hours are available with shift patterns involving early morning starts, late evenings and weekend hours and successful candidates could be based anywhere within the district's three facilities in Cookstown, Dungannon and Magherafelt.
Successful applicants will first undertake an internal swim assessment before progressing to an intensive National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) training programme taking place from 21 to 25 September, followed by the qualification examination on Saturday 26 September.
Candidates who successfully complete the recruitment and training process will be considered for current vacancies and may also be placed on a reserve list for future opportunities arising within the next twelve months.
To support candidates entering the profession, the Council will fund the full cost of the NPLQ course for those who successfully complete the programme and take up employment with the Council.
Speaking about the initiative, Deputy Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Eva Cahoon said:
"This programme offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to start or develop a career within the leisure sector. As well as gaining a nationally recognised qualification, successful candidates will have the opportunity to join our dedicated team and play an important role in supporting the health, safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors using our leisure facilities.
"We are particularly keen to hear from people who may not have considered a career in leisure before and are looking for a rewarding role where they can make a positive difference within their local community."
Leisure Attendants play a vital role in ensuring the safe operation of swimming pools, promoting customer enjoyment and supporting a positive experience for all users of Council leisure facilities.
Applications for the Trainee Leisure Attendant Recruitment Programme open on Thursday 20 August, closing on Thursday 3rd September, and interested candidates are encouraged to apply early.
