Council welcomes extension of parking time in Dungannon Town Centre
New waiting restrictions are to come into force in Dungannon Town Centre on Monday 3 August, which will allow people parking in on-street spaces within the Controlled Parking Zones an additional hour to return to their cars.
Mid Ulster District Council and Dungannon Town Centre traders have successfully urged the Department for Infrastructure to extend the length of time for parking from one to two hours in certain streets in the town centre to provide greater flexibility for people visiting local shops, cafés and other town centre businesses.
Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Deirdre Varsani welcomed the extension, saying:
“I very much welcome the extension of the one-hour parking period to two hours from the third of August. It is a positive step for businesses, shoppers and the wider Dungannon town centre. More time means more choice and more support for our town centre’s economy. Our businesses will benefit as longer parking will lead to a stronger town centre. People will have time to browse in the shops, have a bite to eat or meet up for a coffee, or visit facilities like Hill of The O’Neill and Ranfurly House. We would like to thank the Minister for listening to the concerns of the business community in Dungannon.”
Streets covered in the new maximum stay of two hours, no return within two hours (Monday to Saturday. 8.15am – 6.15pm) are parts of Castle Hill; Church Street; George’s Street; Irish Street; Market Square; Northland Row; Park Road; Perry Street; Scotch Street; Shamble Lane; Thomas Street; and William Street.
Those parking in the town centre should make sure to check on-street signage for the restrictions in force before leaving their vehicle. A penalty charge (£90) is payable with respect to a non-exempt vehicle for contravening the Order.
