Council Honours Outstanding Community and Arts Achievements

Mid Ulster District Council celebrated another exceptional evening of recognition and celebration at the second annual Mid Ulster Arts, Culture and Community Awards, held at The Burnavon Theatre, Cookstown.

The prestigious event recognised the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals, groups, and organisations from across the district who continue to make a significant impact through arts, culture, volunteering, community service, well-being initiatives, and environmental action over the past year.

Hosted by local personality Malachi Cush alongside Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Frances Burton, the ceremony welcomed hundreds of guests from across the district for an inspiring evening dedicated to celebrating community excellence.

The Mid Ulster Arts, Culture and Community Awards honoured excellence across a wide range of categories, with this year’s winners announced as:

  • Arts Person of the Year – Samuel Cuddy

  • Young Arts Person of the Year – Lucy Hawe

  • Arts Group of the Year – Dungannon Area All Stars Club

  • Youth Champion Award – Coalisland Training Services

  • Age Friendly Award – Lissan Over 60’s Club

  • Equality and Good Relations Award – 1st Steps Women’s Centre Dungannon

  • Community Eco Award – 33rd Derry Ballinascreen Scouts

  • Health and Well-being Award – Mid Ulster Wellness Association

  • Community Safety Award – CRAIC (Joanne McDonald in partnership with Wee Yarn Productions and actor Ronan Johnson)

  • Community Champion Award – Trevor Lockhart 

  • Volunteer of the Year Award – Michael Murray

  • Lifetime Achievement Award – Michael Carolan

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Frances Burton, presented the awards on the night and praised the remarkable dedication and commitment shown by all nominees and winners.

Councillor Burton said:

“The Mid Ulster Arts, Culture and Community Awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the people and organisations who make such a positive difference throughout our district every single day.

“The talent, compassion, creativity and community spirit demonstrated by this year’s nominees and winners is truly inspiring. From supporting local communities and promoting well-being to championing the arts and encouraging inclusion, each recipient has made a lasting impact on the lives of others.

“Mid Ulster is fortunate to have so many individuals and groups who are committed to strengthening our communities and creating opportunities for others. It was a privilege to celebrate their achievements and acknowledge the important role they play in making our district such a vibrant and welcoming place to live.”
