Positive Ageing Month Returns to Mid Ulster This October

Mid Ulster District Council is encouraging older residents across the district to get involved in this year’s Positive Ageing Month, with a varied programme of activities taking place throughout October.
Positive Ageing Month returns this October, celebrating the invaluable contribution older people make to their families, communities and wider society, while providing opportunities to get active, learn something new, meet others and enjoy time together.

Organised by Mid Ulster District Council, this year’s programme includes a wide range of activities and events taking place across the district, with something to suit a variety of interests and abilities.
Activities include Autumn wreath-making, painting and craft workshops, low-impact aerobics, financial wellbeing online sessions, and ‘Tea and Treats Around Mid Ulster – A Chat and a Cuppa’, offering opportunities to socialise, connect with others and enjoy some time out.

Welcoming the programme, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Deirdre Varsani, said:
“Positive Ageing Month is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the contribution, experience and knowledge that older people bring to our communities every day.
“The programme offers a fantastic mix of activities, from getting active and creative to learning new skills, finding out more about financial wellbeing, or simply taking time to meet others and enjoy a chat over a cup of tea.
“I would encourage older residents across Mid Ulster to take a look at the programme and get involved in whatever activities appeal to them. Whether you come along to try something completely new, meet up with friends, or simply enjoy some company, there is something for everyone.”

The month-long celebration begins on International Day of Older Persons on 1 October, with activities continuing throughout the month in communities across Mid Ulster.

Many of the activities are free or low-cost and provide opportunities for older residents to stay active, connect with others, explore their creativity and access useful information and support.
From low-impact aerobics and other activities promoting health and wellbeing, to autumn wreath-making, painting and craft workshops, there are plenty of opportunities to try something new. The ‘Tea and Treats Around Mid Ulster – A Chat and a Cuppa’ sessions will also provide a chance to meet others, enjoy some refreshments and share a conversation.

For those looking for practical support, the programme also includes a Financial Wellbeing online session, providing useful information to help participants feel more confident about managing their finances.
Mid Ulster District Council invites older residents across the district to join in this year’s Positive Ageing Month celebrations and discover the range of opportunities available throughout October.
