Vote for your Sporting Champions in Mid Ulster

Nominations are now open for the Mid Ulster Sports Awards 2026, giving local people the opportunity to recognise the outstanding sporting talent, dedication and contribution of individuals, teams, clubs, coaches and volunteers across the district.

Organised by Mid Ulster District Council, the Mid Ulster Sports Awards celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams from local clubs, schools and sporting organisations who reside or are based in the Mid Ulster area.
The awards recognise sporting excellence across a wide range of disciplines, while also shining a light on the coaches, volunteers and unsung heroes whose commitment and support help athletes and teams to achieve their goals.
The awards also celebrate and champion people with disabilities in sport, highlighting the wide-ranging opportunities available across the district and the important role sport plays in creating a more diverse, inclusive and active community.

The prestigious awards ceremony will take place at the Burnavon, Cookstown, on Wednesday 18 November 2026.

Speaking at the launch, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Deirdre Varsani, said:
“Sport is such an important part of life across Mid Ulster, bringing people together, inspiring the next generation and creating a real sense of pride within our communities. Behind every sporting achievement is a story of hard work, commitment and determination, and these awards provide an opportunity to celebrate those stories and the people behind them.
“Whether it is an athlete achieving success at the highest level, a young person taking their first steps in sport, a dedicated coach or volunteer giving their time, or someone quietly supporting their club and community year after year, every contribution matters.
“I would encourage people across Mid Ulster to get involved and nominate the sporting champions who they believe deserve recognition. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the talent, passion and dedication that exists right across our district.”

The 2026 awards will feature a variety of categories encompassing a wide range of sports and recognising achievements both on and off the field.
Categories will include:
  • Sports Person of the Year
  • Young Sports Person of the Year
  • Sports Person of the Year (Disability)
  • Team of the Year
  • Youth Team of the Year (18 and under)
  • Club of the Year
  • Coach of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Unsung Hero of the Year
  • Sports Photo of the Year
Nominees in each category will be carefully considered by an independent judging panel, with winners selected based on their achievements, sportsmanship, contribution and impact on the local sporting community.
New for 2026, the Sports Photo of the Year category will celebrate the power of photography to capture the excitement, emotion and memorable moments that make local sport so special.

Nominations are now open and must be submitted by 12 noon on 16 October 2026; applications after this date WILL NOT be accepted.
