If your dog attacks another animal or person, or if you or an animal you own has been attacked by a dog, you should report the incident to us.
We will investigate the alleged attack, and when all the relevant information has been gathered, we will make a decision about any action to take, including whether there is enough evidence to take a prosecution.
Sheep and Livestock Worrying |
- The Council has the authority to seize any dog (of any type and breed) suspected of being involved in worrying or attacking livestock and, where possible, a prosecution will then be sought against the owner.
- The owner may face considerable costs including a £1000 fine, court costs and in some cases the cost of having their dog humanely destroyed.
- A civil case may also be brought by the farmer for any financial loss suffered.
