Mid Ulster Skills Forum
Established in 2017 by Mid Ulster District Council, the 30-strong Mid Ulster Skills Forum is the first industry-led, area-based body of its kind in Northern Ireland and draws its membership from local businesses, colleges, universities, enterprise agencies, key sectoral business organisations, government departments and the Council.
One of the Forum's first key pieces of work was to commission an in-depth scoping study to map the current skills base across businesses in 6 specific sectors skills (manufacturing and engineering; construction; food and agri-food; retail; hospitality; IT) and to identify areas for action to match education and skills provision to meet the critical workforce needs of local employers.
The study and its ambitious skills action plan aim to address the skills deficit and have the potential to create more than 2,300 new jobs in Mid Ulster by 2021.
