Featuring David Torrans.

Born and raised in Reno, Nevada, Willy Vlautin started playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager and quickly became immersed in music, founding the band Richmond Fontaine in 1994. The band produced eleven studio albums, all driven by Vlautin’s dark, story-like song writing.

‘Willy Vlautin is one of the bravest novelists writing… it takes real courage to write a novel about ordinary good people.’
Ursula K LeGuin

A Paul Kelly song, based on a Raymond Carver short story inspired him to start writing and to date he has published five novels: The Motel Life, Northline, Lean On Pete (now a critically acclaimed film starring Steve Buscemi), The Free and his latest, Don’t Skip Out On Me. Like Seamus Heaney, Vlautin is drawn to tales about ordinary people living tough, everyday lives and, like Heaney, his work shines
with compassion.
Join Willy as he chats to David Torrans from No Alibis Bookstore about his music and writing career and performs some of his best-loved tunes and the music that provides the soundtrack to his books.
