Every Body Get Active with Council’s Summer Sports Camps

Mid Ulster District Council is offering three weeks of outdoor sports camps in Dungannon, Cookstown and Magherafelt, through the Every Body Active 2020 programme.

The Every Body Active programme is aimed at getting people more active more often through sport and physical activity, in particular the traditionally underrepresented groups, which include girls and women, people with a disability and those living in areas of greatest social need.

Week one is a free Outdoor Walking camp open to everyone (anyone under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult) and is taking place in the Dungannon area starting with Dungannon Park, from Monday 27 July to Friday 31 July, at 10.30am – 12pm.

Week two is an Outdoor Inclusive Cycling camp at the cost of £10 for the week. The cycling camp is open to people of all ages with a disability, and will take place at Mid Ulster Sports Arena, Cookstown from Monday 3 August to Friday 7 August, at 10.30am – 12pm.

Week three is an Outdoor Multi-Sports Camp for children aged 7 – 11 years old at the cost of £10 for the week. The multi-sports camp will take place at Meadowbank Sports Arena from Monday 10 August to Friday 14 August, at 11am – 1pm, and sports will include tennis, football, hockey, basketball, golf, lacrosse, keep fit class, gaelic football and a final multi-sports day.

The Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Cathal Mallaghan has welcomed the inclusive summer camps. He said,

The new inclusive sports camps are open to everyone and will offer our residents the chance to enjoy more exercise, following months of lockdown where gyms, sports arenas and leisure centres were closed. With three outdoor camps across the district, offering different activities for residents from young to old, and those with a disability, I’d encourage anyone interested to sign up now as places are limited.

To register for a summer camp, please complete a registration form and email it to leisure@midulstercouncil.org. All sports equipment will be cleaned and sanitised before and after use. Spaces on each camp are limited, if you plan to attend please ensure that you are appropriately dressed for the outdoor camp.
