Cookstown Place Shaping Plan set to carve out the future of Cookstown with its people, for its people
Mid Ulster District Council is inviting residents, businesses and visitors to assist in shaping the vision for Cookstown 2025-2040, through the development of a Place Shaping Plan.
The aim of the Place Shaping Plan is to improve the social, economic and environmental well-being of Cookstown. This project is co funded by Mid Ulster District Council and the Department for Communities.
Following extensive research and collaborative engagement with the people who live, work, invest and visit Cookstown, the Plan will outline a vision for the town, and set out a tangible, achievable roadmap of actions up to 2040. This Plan will inform the responsibilities of key stakeholders on the delivery of initiatives over the next fifteen years, subject to funding.
Chair of the Council, Councillor Eugene McConnell, welcomed the development of the Plan, saying:
The Cookstown Place Shaping Plan provides the opportunity for those who live, work, invest and visit Cookstown to be involved in developing a plan which will strive to ensure Cookstown remains vibrant over the next fifteen years. Partnership working with key stakeholders will be vital in identifying key initiatives for the final Plan. I encourage all those with an interest in Cookstown to become involved and attend future workshops.
Welcoming the launch of the Cookstown Place Shaping Plan, Communities Minister, Gordon Lyons, added: “I am pleased that my department has been able to provide funding for a new Place Shaping Plan for Cookstown. Place Shaping is a collaborative approach to planning and designing public spaces, in order to create places where people want to live, work, play and invest. This Plan will provide a vision for Cookstown’s future, providing a clear roadmap to realise the ambition for the town.
"DFC look forward to working collaboratively with Mid Ulster District Council and key stakeholders towards the development of the final plan.”
Studio Idir and Starling Start have been appointed to develop the Plan.
There will be further opportunities to get involved and have your say over the coming weeks, including an online survey, workshops and events in Cookstown.
