Cookstown Place shaping plan graphicOverview

The people of Cookstown are invited to help shape the future of their town as part of an exciting new initiative that will explore how Cookstown can be improved for everyone who lives, works, visits and invests here.

The Cookstown Place Shaping Plan is being developed by Mid Ulster District Council, in partnership with the Department for Communities and the Cookstown Town Centre Forum, which is acting as the project steering group.

The aim of the Place Shaping Plan is to improve the social, economic and environmental well being of Cookstown that will outline a vision for the town, and set out a tangible, achievable roadmap of actions up to 2040.

Studio idir and Starling Start have been appointed to develop the plan which is part funded by Mid Ulster District Council and the Department for Communities.

What happens next

Following the first round of engagement of developing the Cookstown Place Shaping Plan, which involved extensive research and collaborate engagement with the people who live, work, invest and visit Cookstown, the second stage of engagement has commenced. This round of engagement is to review and have your say on the themes and proposals to be included in Cookstown Place Shaping Plan. This Plan will inform the responsibilities of key stakeholders on the delivery of initiatives over the next fifteen years, subject to funding.

Below are the themes and proposals identified for Cookstown Place Shaping Plan and we are keen to gain your feedback on the themes and proposals through the completion of a
short online survey. The survey, which opens on Monday, 10 November and closes at 5pm on Monday, 9 February 2026, will only take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

Alternatively a drop in session will be held on Monday, 17 November 2025, from 10am - 4pm in the Studio at The Burnavon Theatre, Cookstown. Studio idir and Starling Start will be in attendance at the session to discuss the themes and proposals in person.

Your feedback will help shape the Cookstown Place Shaping Plan. We will listen carefully to what you tell us and share how your input will influence the final version.
