Corporate Improvement Plan and Objectives

Our Improvement Plan

The Council is focused on the provision of quality services throughout the District area and has established arrangements which support continuous improvement in everything that we do.

This is in line with the requirements of Part 12 of the Local Government (Northern Ireland) Act 2014 which indicate that the Council must publish a Corporate Improvement Plan and set Corporate Improvement Objectives.

These 'improvement objectives' must relate to one of the following:

  • Strategic Effectiveness

  • Fairness

  • Efficiency

  • Service Quality

  • Sustainability

  • Innovation

  • Service Availability

Performance and continuous improvement arrangements contribute towards the delivery of quality services and hence work towards the delivery of our vision, values and corporate priorities contained in the Corporate Plan.

Corporate Improvement Plans

Each year the Council has to publish improvement objectives, these are set out in an improvement plan, which includes activities, outcome indicators, projects and targets which help us measure the difference made to local people.

Measuring Council performance throughout the year

We continually measure our performance throughout the year and Council members are presented with reports to committee meetings 3 – 4 times during the year to outline the progress.

Measuring Council performance - Annual Report

Every year, as a Council we publish an Annual Performance Report by the 30th of September, in order to explain, in a clear and balanced way, what we have achieved the previous financial year. The annual performance report brings all of the progress reports together and weighs up the success over the year.

Audit and Regulation

As well as monitoring our own performance, we are also reviewed every year by the Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO). They produce an annual report called a Section 95 – Audit and Assessment Report.
