Swimming Levels Explained

Mid Ulster Swim Academy is structured to allow pupils to move up levels, according to their ability. 

Level Starting ability and content 
1 Non Swimmers 4yrs +
Structured fun filled activities, aimed at improving water confidence and independence.
2 Independent floaters with no aids
Activities aim to develop first independent swimming and body position on back.
3 Swimmers who can swim 3 + metres
Activities focus on front crawl and further development of back swimming position. Introduction to breaststroke actions.
4 Swimmers who can swim 5 metres
Activities focus on front crawl and swimming 3+ metres back crawl. Early development of breaststroke full stroke. Introduction to dolphin body actions.
5 Swimmers who can swim 10 metres front crawl and back crawl. Activities focus on the introduction to breaststroke breathing in stroke. Further development of butterfly body actions and introduction to butterfly arms. Introduction to treading water.
6 Swimmers who can swim 15 metres front crawl and back crawl. Activities focus on breaststroke with correct developed technique for 10 metres.Tread water unaided. Introduction to butterfly full stroke.
7 Swimmers who can swim 25 metres front crawl and back crawl. Activities focus on breaststroke with correct developed technique  covering 15 metres. Butterfly 3+ metres. Introduction to Diving.
8 Swimmers who can swim 50 metres front crawl and back crawl. Activities focus on breaststroke with correct developed technique covering 25 metres. Butterfly with correct breathing. Standing Dives
