NPLQ – Candidate Renewal Pathway

Open to candidates interested in maintaining/renewing their NPLQ who are not employed within the industry.
Please note: 20 training hours must be completed within the validity period stated on their current certificate.
 
The renewal process involves completing a three-day intensive course and a full assessment conducted by an independent assessor.

Each course costs £175 per person which must be paid prior to the course starting. To book any one of the courses below contact the relevant centre or email leisure@midulstercouncil.org

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a renewal assessment at the end of the course, candidates must have completed a minimum of 20 hours of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
This must include:

  • In-water swimming pool rescue skills (minimum 4 hours)

  • CPR (minimum 4 hours)

  • First Aid (minimum 4 hours)

  • Lifeguard theory (minimum 4 hours)

 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

In some cases, candidates may be eligible for exemptions from parts of the course through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

To apply for an exemption, candidates must submit appropriate supporting evidence to the course trainer before the course begins.

Relevant evidence may include completed face-to-face or online training in areas such as:

  • In-water swimming pool rescue skills

  • CPR

  • First Aid

  • Lifeguard theory

Lifeguard Course Pre-Requisites  

Every candidate attending a NPLQ course must be 16 years old at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

  • Jump / dive into deep water

  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds

  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water

  • Tread water for 30 seconds

  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool

  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits
