Cookstown Leisure Centre Users Get Early Christmas Present! The most recent phase of Mid Ulster District Council’s investment programme in leisure services has transformed the fitness suite at Cookstown Leisure Centre, which has reopened just in time for that last minute fitness push before Christmas! Refurbishment work carried out in November has replaced equipment in the suite, including existing treadmills and cross trainers. It also included the addition of new CV (cardiovascular) and strength equipment including step mills and Jacobs ladders; the redesign of the functional and HIIT training areas; installation of new flooring and redecoration of the space. The fitness suite was reopened by Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Martin Kearney and Chair of Mid Ulster District Council’s Development Committee, Councillor Trevor Wilson. Councillor Kearney welcomed the £185,000 investment in leisure facilities, saying: “It is fantastic to see the transformation in the fitness suite facilities at Cookstown Leisure Centre, which will benefit the health and wellbeing of all its users. Mid Ulster unfortunately has the highest mortality rate of all areas from circulatory diseases, so the more access our residents have to services that better enable us to live longer, healthier and more active lives, the better.” Councillor Wilson also welcomed the transformation to the fitness suite saying: “We’re committed to offering the best facilities available to all of our customers across leisure services so these refurbishment works are absolutely essential as modern fitness trends and expectations evolve. The results we see today create a sleek, professional fitness suite that includes brand new machinery for all users from those just starting out to intensive users.” For further information visit www.midulstercouncil.org/leisure/gyms or to see the transformation taking place view the Leisure Centre’s Facebook’s page.
