Council leisure facilities unite for National Fitness Day celebration
Mid Ulster District Council leisure centres and sports arenas in Cookstown, Dungannon, Maghera, and Magherafelt are uniting to celebrate National Fitness Day - the most active day of the year - with a programme of taster sessions, free activities, gym challenges and more from Saturday 19 September, culminating on National Fitness Day on Wednesday 23 September.
This year’s theme celebrates the inclusive power physical activity has by celebrating how fitness unites us, particularly in times like these.
Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Cathal Mallaghan explains:
“Coming together with friends and family in safe COVID-19 secure environments like our leisure facilities can be a great way to overcome the myriad of challenges we face as a whole and as individuals across society.
Sport, physical activity and exercise has always had the power to bring people together and so contributes to community health, well-being and cohesion. Our aim as a Council is to provide high quality leisure opportunities to all those in our district, supporting all our residents in coming together as one fitness family!
I encourage everyone to take advantage of the blend of physical and virtual activities on offer for existing and new members throughout the five days as we build up to celebrating National Fitness Day together.”
There will be a series of events starting on Monday 19 September and building up to the day itself on Wednesday 23, featuring a blend of safe and socially distant activities in leisure centres and sports areans in Cookstown, Dungannon, Magherafelt and Maghera, and virtual activities online through the facilities social media channels. Participants can also take advantage of money off membership offers across the five days. From taster sessions, to in gym challenges and online classes, the Centres are throwing their doors open to everyone!
