Council says ‘thank you’ this Recycle Week
This Recycle Week, Mid Ulster District Council would like to say thank you to all the ‘Recycling Heroes’ in the district for continuing to recycle even during the challenging circumstances of the last few months.
Recycle Now’s 17th annual Recycle Week takes place from 21 – 27 September and this year’s theme is ‘Together - We Recycle’.
This has certainly been the case in Mid Ulster as despite the COVID-19 pandemic and a national lockdown, provisional figures for that period (April - June 2020), show that residents continued their excellent recycling effort helping Mid Ulster retain its position at the top of the recycling table here once again with a household recycling rate of 62.59%.
Chair of the Council, Councillor Cathal Mallaghan, is delighted the Council is showing its appreciation to residents for all their great work.
It’s fantastic to see that despite the extremely challenging and uncertain year we’ve experienced to date, the resolve of our residents to recycle has not faltered, seeing Mid Ulster again achieving the highest household recycling rate of all 11 councils here for the last quarter. For this we are extremely grateful and extend a sincere thank you to everyone in the district. The theme of this year’s Recycle Week certainly applies to Mid Ulster, Together- We Recycle. I know our recycling and waste workers were totally overwhelmed with the messages of support and thanks they received as they continued to carry-out their vital work throughout the pandemic. Every single wave, note, card and gift left out for them meant a great deal and is heart-warming proof of how Mid Ulster has cooperated. Those staff too, wish to extend their thanks to the district for all their kind words and well-wishes and for making their jobs so much easier during a very testing time. I must also extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of these essential staff members who continued to provide the best possible uninterrupted service under the most difficult of circumstances. Recycle Week this year is an opportunity to thank everyone in the district for continuing to recycle, whatever their circumstances and to celebrate the way we have all pulled together. There has been a positive leap forward in attitudes that we must capitalise on so that we can do even better in the coming year!
