Track and training activities next to benefit

Outdoor recreation availability at Council owned sports facilities will increase from Monday 12 April, following easing of restrictions to allow outdoor sports training to resume by individuals and clubs affiliated with recognised Governing Bodies.

Bookings are now open for 3G pitches at Mid Ulster Sports Arena, Drumcoo, Meadowbank Sports Arena, Ballygawley Playing Fields and Benburb Playing Fields. Selected grass pitches will also open for use and bookings, with some restrictions in place, operating to current sports industry body and public health advice and in line with annual maintenance schedules.

Club training can also resume on athletic tracks (for groups of up to 15 adults or 30 persons under 18 years old) at Gortgonis and Meadowbank Sports Arena.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Cathal Mallaghan said:

“It’s fantastic to see more of our services resume, especially our outdoor 3G pitches, running tracks and selected grass pitches that support grassroots sports development. It’s vital to be aware that in line with published guidelines, bookings at this stage must be from affiliated coaches and clubs only – unfortunately, everyone else must wait a little longer to be able to use the pitches once again.

“As with all other facilities we must ask users to at all times obey the rules that are in place for both their own and others safety and enjoyment.”

Anyone using the 3G or grass pitches will be required to book in advance via Mid Ulster Sports Arena on 028 8676 7135 or Meadowbank Sports Arena on 028 7939 7117 and adhere to the Council’s safety measures in place to support social distancing and current public health guidelines. Bookings are permitted for small groups of up to 15 people and all indoor spaces will be closed except essential toilet facilities.

For track bookings, Gortgonis users can contact Mid Ulster Sports Area, or Meadowbank Sports Arena directly for their track availability.

All individuals, clubs and sports organisations that book the facilities must comply with their own sporting codes and protocols for resuming activity.
