Check Inclusion On Project Stratum Broadband Postcodes List

Mid Ulster District Council is urging residents and businesses to check if they are included on the ‘white postcodes’ list to receive full fibre broadband connections via Project Stratum.

The call comes as emerging data indicates that household and business premises which were anticipated to be among the 12,000 in Mid Ulster to benefit from enhanced connectivity are not currently included on the list to roll out the scheme.

Project Stratum, an initiative from the Department for the Economy which is being delivered locally by Fibrus, largely focuses on rural, hard to reach areas where premises cannot currently receive a 30mbps connection.

A simple postcode check will allow anyone to identify if their property has been included, as the Chair of the Council, Councillor Cathal Mallaghan, explained:

“Ensuring that Mid Ulster has the digital connectivity to support the needs of our residents and our businesses has been, and remains, critical and is a key strategic objective for the Council.

“While we welcome Project Stratum and the significant investment it brings to realising essential, fast, reliable online access, we must ensure that the broadest possible number of premises here are included, particularly in rural areas.

“We’re urging anyone with poor broadband speeds to take 2 minutes to check their postcode and then to let us know if they’re not included and feel they should be”.

Councillor Kim Ashton, who chairs the Council’s Broadband Working Group, said:

“We would like to hear from anyone who has been excluded so we are in a position to quantify the extent of the issue which is now emerging.

“To help, we’ve created a short online survey where anyone who is not on the current postcode list and who does not have the broadband speeds specified can leave their details.

“We can then take the data back to the Department and establish a much clearer picture of where any gaps are which need to be addressed.”
