Hands Up For Care Day 2021!
The Chair of Mid Ulster District Council is joining a global celebration of children and young people in care this Friday, 19th February, and putting his ‘hands up for Care Day 2021’.
Councillor Cathal Mallaghan has recorded a special video message to mark the 6th annual Care Day and the Council is also participating in this year’s virtual Care Day Festival, staging a free family magic show via zoom.
Councillor Mallaghan said:
The last 12 months have been like no other, and if we are having the conversation about how our young people have been impacted by the pandemic, then we need to make sure that we also think about the particular challenges faced by our young people in care – and the young care leavers – in our community. Obviously this year we can’t come together to celebrate Care Day, but that doesn’t mean we can’t join together to mark the day. I am encouraging everyone to visit the Voice of Young People in Care website, to find out more about the work the organisation is doing to promote the rights and voice of children in care and care leavers. Also check out the virtual festival going on, including the family magic show being staged on zoom by the Council via the Hill of the O’Neill”.
The ‘It’s A Kind Of Magic’ show takes place via zoom on Saturday 20 February at 11.30am. To book visit The Hill of The O’Neill website and to see everything that is taking place during the Care Day 2021 Virtual Festival, visit the Voice of Young People In Care website.
