Big Spring Clean Success in Mid Ulster

Mid Ulster District Council has commended residents for their efforts in organising 34 community clean ups between 1st March and 31st May 2022.

Big Spring Cleans are the biggest volunteer clean ups here, taking place each year in the spring months. The Council supports any community groups, sports clubs or schools carrying out a Big Spring Clean by loaning litter pickers, providing bin bags and by collecting and disposing of the rubbish afterwards.

Speaking at the Council’s Environment Committee, Chair of the Committee, Councillor Sean McGuigan said,

It is very pleasing to see the fantastic environmental work taking place in our communities. Residents have gone above and beyond organising their own Big Spring Cleans and assisting our street cleansing staff in ensuring our streets, roads, pathways, open spaces and beautiful country sides are kept as litter-free as possible, collecting 3,500 bags of rubbish between March and May this year.
Mid Ulster is renowned for its dedication to recycling and protecting the environment and Big Spring Cleans are a continuation of this excellent work. I would like to thank our residents, community and school groups for their help and enthusiasm to keep our district clean and green. I hope to see even more groups get involved in the Big Spring Clean next year.
