News that the world’s biggest literary festival is to come to Seamus Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy has been described as a ‘perfect pairing’ by Chair of Mid Ulster District Council.
Councillor Sean McPeake was commenting on next month’s event (23 June), which will see HomePlace, the literary centre which showcases the life and literature of the Nobel Laureate, Seamus Heaney, become one of only two venues here to host the Jaipur Literary Festival.
The festival takes place in India annually and is considered one of the most important events of its kind across the globe, bringing together a diverse mix of the world’s greatest writers, thinkers, humanitarians, politicians, business leaders, sports-persons and entertainers on one stage to engage in thoughtful dialogue and debate.
“Given Seamus Heaney is a writer of international standing and the Jaipur festival is renowned across the globe, the choice of HomePlace as a venue is a perfect pairing,” said Councillor McPeake.
“The element of the festival being held in Bellaghy, which will feature two ‘in conversation’ events exploring aspects of Indian and Irish culture and is another indication of the reputation and relationships which HomePlace is developing as an international attraction in itself”.
The Festival will host events at Seamus Heaney HomePlace on Sunday 23 June 2019. For further information visit www.seamusheaneyhome.com.
