Dungannon is gearing up to enjoy a complete day of music next month (Saturday 13 August), with buskers battling it out in the town centre in the afternoon, followed by an evening of ‘pop in the park’.
The Battle of the Buskers competition returns to the town centre for a second time (12pm – 5pm) and will see local musicians, singers, bands and solo artists showcase their musical talent as they vie for the chance to take the crown from last year’s winner, local act ‘The Knights’.
Organised by Mid Ulster District Council in partnership with Dungannon Regeneration Partnership and Dungannon Traders Association, the competition winner will receive £1000 and the chance to move straight from the street to the stage, performing that same evening in the ‘Pop in the Park’ concert.
The 2nd Best Busker will receive a massive £500, while £100 prizes are also on offer in other categories, including best young performer and Spirit of Battle of the Buskers.
Each performer will be allocated a pitch to perform on the day, along with an opportunity to perform on stage in the central event space in Market Square.
Railway Park is then the venue for a free open air concert from 5pm to10pm with Irish folk legends, Bagatelle, headlining alongside renowned Abba tribute group, Abba-Esque, and other artists.
To ensure it’s not only the adults having all the fun, there will also be plenty of children’s activities during the evening (5pm-8pm), with a climbing wall, face painting, balloon modelling and family shows on offer.
Speaking about the Day of Music, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Trevor Wilson, said: “The Day of Music event in Dungannon certainly promises to be a great one. With so much musical talent on display, both from our own local artists as part of the Battle of the Buskers competition and the renowned and nationally acclaimed Bagatelle headlining the Pop in the Park concert, who could afford to miss it!
“I am delighted that the Council is holding such credible events that illustrate the collaborative working between the Council, local business and traders to promote Dungannon as a ‘must-visit’ destination.”
The Pop in the Park concert is organised by Mid Ulster District Council and part-funded by the Northern Ireland Executive and the Housing Executive.
The closing date for applications for the Battle of the Buskers competition is Friday 5 August 2016. For more information on how to apply, visit www.DungannonLife.com or telephone 028 87728 602.
